Anyway I often see posts like this and want to join in, a lot of the photo word prompts which I really enjoy always make me want to join the club but then I forget where I've seen the link and never actually get going!
But 10 random things would be easy I thought, so without further ado, get to know me a little better.....
1) I like lists, there are hundreds hidden around the house. The Builder hates them as he feels under pressure to fulfil them and so that's why they are hidden!
2) When I was younger I always said my two main ambitions in life were to be able to sing and to see! I had my eyes lasered about 10 years ago and I love it; still can't sing though!
3) Before having my eyes lasered I often wore contact lenses and had them in blue or green so I could change the colour of my eyes. I never ever got used to the fact I wore glasses and if I caught sight of myself in a shop window I was always surprised to see specs on my face!
4) I met my husband when I was 13 and he was 18, he had an 18th birthday party and got his friends to hand out invites to any girls they saw - there were around 5 boys and over 200 girls! And what would I do if my 13 year old daughter met an 18 year old she wanted to have as a boyfriend? Chase him down the road with a shotgun most probably!
5) I have never got on with my Mum, very sad but that's the reality which will probably never change.
6) I firmly believe in supporting those less well off and less capable in life. I will not have a debate about it and I know there are those who find loopholes and maybe don't deserve the amount of support they manage to get. However I still believe that a safety net and support network should be there - I may need it myself one day.
7) I once had dinner with a very famous British film star who, when we were introduced, held my hand and told me he loved me. At that point I uttered one sentence and got all the words in the wrong order, then turned and left the room. I didn't speak one word to him again and avoided eye contact for the rest of the evening!
8) I sometimes say I'm an only child and sometimes refer to my sister. Just to clarify I was brought up living with my Mum who had separated from my Dad when I was 2. However he has another daughter, a few years younger than me, who I see very occasionally.
9) As I was brought up in a 2 female household and had 2 girl cousins who I saw quite a bit, then went to an all girls high school I find boys and men a complete mystery. I spent most of my childhood with my elderly Grandparents so in addition to not understanding men I also don't understand competitive sports, rough and tumble and tickling!! I can see I'm a bit weird now I've written that down!
10) I started to go grey at age 15 but have dyed my hair ever since - it's always been a reddy brown - I would love ginger hair, or as my red haired cousin used to say "it's titian!"
Blimey, I think I could do another 20 randoms!! Who's next?
Have a lovely weekend wherever you are, the sun is shining through the showers here, cricket is on, then it's off, then it's on again - I've made the cricket tea today so if it's called off I'll have to eat 20 blueberry muffins, 20 spiced apple muffins, 2 giant banoffee pies, 2 lemon loaves and a big chocolate cake - anyone fancy joining me for a tea party?
I like this idea too, will give it a go.
ReplyDeleteI'll look out for your post, & look forward to getting to know you better.
DeleteWhat a fun list! We do build up a rapport with our fellow bloggers, and you're right, we won't meet many of them in real life. But every once in awhile a meet-up does happen. I have one scheduled for this coming Tuesday with a blogger I've known online for several years! I would love to come over and share your cricket treats if the games get cancelled. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to meet up with a blogger friend - I do hope you'll tell us about it in a post.
DeleteThe cricket was on today in the end but I did bring home some left over cake .- feel free to pop over!
No. 4 made me laugh. You've got to tell us who No.7 was! I love lists too.
ReplyDeleteThe actor was Hugh Grant, I was sworn to secrecy but it was a few years ago now - I won't get into trouble for telling as none of my friends know I write a blog!
DeleteI love reading these and yours was fun. I love lists too and can't stop making them. Just made one five minutes ago, in fact. I met my husband because they needed girls at a party too! I was 20 and he was 22, so less scandalous than your relationship, haha. But it's a good way to meet people!
ReplyDeleteGosh I'm scandalous! I didn't realise!!
DeleteI'm liking these ten random things posts. Loved getting to know you Jay. I might have to write a similar post. Thanks for the insight into your life :-))
ReplyDeleteThey're good fun aren't they, I'll look forward to seeing your list Patricia
DeleteI enjoyed reading your 10 random things too! You have made up for the lack of males in your life now! I hope the rain held off and your cricket tea went ahead! Sarah x
ReplyDelete1 match was on and 1 off Sarah, so at least the whole family was in one place for a change!
DeleteI'm a fan of the Random Posts. Yours are great! I can't believe you met your Hubby at 13 - does that mean you were together since then or you just met him for the first time then??? You have to tell us who no. 7 was!!! Mel x
ReplyDeleteWe didn't go out when I was 13 Mel, but I did follow him round like a puppy dog sometimes! I was about 15 when we officially went out but it was a bit on and off!
DeleteThe actor was Hugh Grant but I was told to keep it secret - it's a few years ago now so hopefully I'm not in trouble!
Brilliant random post. I'm an only child and I went to a girls school, so boys were a bit of a mystery to me too. I'm getting the measure of them now though. I'm envious of your eye lasering, I'd love to be able to see further than the end of my nose without contact lenses. Did you find your sight was perfect, and has it stayed that way? I shall have to start saving! It's funny once you start listing random things it's hard to stop isn't it. I hope you have a good Sunday, CJ xx

DeleteI'm so envious of my children having siblings and knowing all sorts of different people, I was so sheltered.
DeleteThe eye surgery was the best thing I ever did, perfect vision within hours of the op. It was 10 years ago and now I need reading glasses as eyes become slightly long sighted as we age , apparently. I know it's not always so successful but I was lucky.
Husband didn't want me to have it done though, he was terrified of something going wrong.
I would love to join you for afternoon tea Jay and a good chat. I can see from your ten things, that we have a lot in common.
ReplyDeletep.s. thanks for your comment on our dunny, I wanted/tried to reply but you have the no reply blogger thingy set up. Always lovely to hear from you Jay. Take care x
Sorry Kylie, I didn't even know what a no reply blogger was! I've googled how to fix it so hopefully it works now.
DeleteYou're welcome to join me for tea and cake anytime
Very fun post, I am ready for the next ten.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Meredith
I think I could have done at least 30 - maybe I'll do another at some point. I'm loving reading everyone elses
DeleteVery interesting. Such an insight into your life.
ReplyDeleteI would love to join you for afternoon tea, I think I'm a sticky beak also, loved reading about you.
ReplyDeleteI love that saying "sticky beak"! Maybe I should make a cricket tea and not actually deliver it to the cricket, just invite bloggers over for the afternoon!
DeleteHugh Grant ? !!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe's going to a male heavy party next week - not happy. He was quite rude when he told me & once again I had to giggle & comment that my brothers would NEVER have spoken to our mother about stuff like that!
Your cricket tea sounds divine. I've met a few Blogger friends - one even came to stay with me for a party I was throwing !
So glad I have a daughter & one I get on with; we do a lot together.
I know! Hugh Grant loves me! - I will take that knowledge to my grave!
ReplyDeleteApparently, as our Number 1 son has applied to a sporty university, the male to female ratio is 4/5 to 1 - we're trying not to mention that!
I constantly worry that my relationship with my children will turn sour, I have battles with a difficult Number 2 but so hope it will be alright in the end.
How lovely to meet fellow bloggers, there are many I feel I'd get on very well with in real life.
I enjoyed reading your 10 random things, they're a great way to get to know a bit more about a blogger. The cricket tea sounds delicious. Mick's match was off on Saturday, the pitch was waterlogged, but I get out of doing the tea as they have a lady who does it every week, I'm not complaining.
ReplyDeleteI tend to just make the cakes as that's what I enjoy and I draw the line at serving - I always turn up in time to eat some tea too!
DeleteI really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing your ten! Re number 6 - I totally agree. I find myself shouting at the radio quite a lot these days. I am becoming more left wing in my old age. x
ReplyDeleteMy Grandma once told me that we start out left wing and become moderate then right wing as we get older - that is most definitely not the case with me although I see it happening to people around me. I'm so pleased our eldest has taken an interest in politics, it's so important.
DeleteI really enjoyed your 10 randoms Jay, so good to get to know you better. I am a bit spooked by changing eye colours... I have dyed my hair for so long, I can't remember what it looked like but I am aspiring to a chestnut coloured mane. Like you, I am a firm believer of supporting the less fortunate in whatever way we can, compassion is high on my list of must have character traits. Having only recently mellowed and allowed my mum into my personal life a little (she reads my blog but is not allowed to talk about it with me), I often worry about my own current and future relationship with my four. That's why I have so many, one will still like me after a childhood with me, yes? Have I missed tea and cakes?? Cx
ReplyDeleteOh Christina that struck such a chord with me, "hopefully they'll still like me when they grow up" - I almost didn't have children for fear of being disliked. And yes we have created a little unit of our own because of our background experiences. We would get on so well you & I!
DeleteLove your randoms, Like you I love red hair. My sister, who is a redhead always wanted to make a doco about it, but never quite got around to it. Redheads are either revered, worshipped in the Sth pacific or traditionally burned as witches - no middle ground there! How funny about you meeting as a 13 year and he as an 18 (and yes! agree about the shotgun, ha!) year old! Most of your memories have him in them.
ReplyDeleteBest I head off to the South Pacific then!
DeleteAnd yes I'm scared that if I ever leave him (I'm not planning to do that, just to clarify!) I couldn't explain my complex self and history to anyone else - he's lived it with me!
Dear Jay, I LOVED your ten random things! And if ``i had time I would love to quizz you about them and have a conversation, but I am in a tearing hurry, life is a bit "meh" at the moment and I am behind in so many things, blog reading, blog posting, making stuff, buying burthday cards - behind behind behind!
ReplyDeleteNever mind. Would love to meet up sometime, who knows? Lxx
Oh Lynne I hope things even out a bit for you soon and you manage a bit of "you-time"
DeleteI'd love to meet up for a chat (with coffee and cake obviously!), we're not too distant so maybe one day we can?
Oh Jay I love reading these random things about you, I'm such a sticky beak! I love lists too - both writing them and ticking them off. #4 made me laugh out loud, and I'm so curious about that English film star who declared his love for you!
ReplyDeleteThe random lists are good fun aren't they? Glad you enjoyed them - the actor was Hugh Grant having dinner at a friends house and I was so star struck I made a complete idiot of myself!
DeleteReally interesting post...I love these random posts in fact! I am a list maker too, unfortunately I'm not so good at actually doing the things on the list!
ReplyDeleteMarianne x
Your blog made me laugh, I am mother to equally cricket obsessed boys, people ask me what we are doing over the Summer??!! We have to tag team the family holiday if there are matches on. I am doing tea for 60 on Sunday and hoping to be able to be in two places at once on Saturday when we have a 'league match' and the 'school nemesis match' on at the same time.
ReplyDeleteOoh I nearly missed these! So glad I read the comments too so I could find out about the actor who said he loved you. Oh my word, you titian listmaker you!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of that tea!
ReplyDeleteShut the front door! You met HUGH GRANT? I adore him! I'd have been tongue-tied, too.
I cannot imagine meeting my husband when I was 13. I find it astonishing that you two have lived happy ever after! Bravo!
Just caught up with all your posts from the past couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteThe putting the climbing frame up in the kitchen was hilarious, although obviously not for you at the time, even with a good amount of port!
I like your new apron and am with you about the shelves, little things like that just make life move along a bit more smoothly and that's got to be a good thing.
I enjoyed reading your 10 random facts. I didn't get along with my mum from the age of about 12 until I got married and even then we've had quite a few ups and downs over the past 17 years. It certainly made me think about what kind of parent I wanted to be.
Lisa x
Im back again.
ReplyDelete"I once had dinner with a very famous British film star who, when we were introduced, held my hand and told me he loved me. At that point I uttered one sentence and got all the words in the wrong order, then turned and left the room. I didn't speak one word to him again and avoided eye contact for the rest of the evening!"
wait - you mean he fell instantly in love with you? Well I don't blame him at all but def need to know who he is!!! the cats out of the bag and i shall start guessing!
You revealed quite a bit in your 10 random things. Hugh Grant?! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI now must google 'giant banoffee pie' but no matter what it is, I would love to come to tea.
You'd be welcome any time!
DeleteI feel like I got yo know the real Jay a bit better!
ReplyDelete18 and 13 eh? YIKES!
I met mine when I was 17 and he was 21...
Seems like forever......
Cheers!
Linda :o)
