My Skydiving Experience

Some of you may remember my birthday gift last year, which in the history of unwelcome and unsuitable gifts had to win first prize. It was a very upsetting time and was actually a worse (although far more expensive) gift than the 4 door handles the Builder once bought me or the hand made chandelier, seen hanging in this post, here, that he collected on my birthday and handed to me
but which I had actually chosen and ordered some months
before as a Mother's Day gift!

But when all said and done I really do not like to waste money or any waste come to that; I am the person raiding the "just past their sell by date and reduced to 10p" shelf at the supermarket and then spend days wondering what to do with an overripe banana and some trout! So we decided to book the skydive for a couple of weekends ago. Actually this was the second attempt as we spent a couple of hours at the airfield the week before but the wind was too fierce for the plane to take off. The day dawned and it as very calm and the sky was blue, off we set, all except number 2 son who couldn't get out of bed early enough!

We checked in at the drop site and had to listen to the instructors safety talk. It didn't settle my nerves to see the sign on the door saying "Skydiving can result in serious injury or death" - because that's exactly what was going through my mind!
There were a few of these around too!

Harnessed up and ready for take off

The Leap!

Soft landing
..it helps to have padding on your bum!

Oh come on, you didn't really think I did it did you?!

Another collage of pictures, I'll give myself another pat on the back!

I'm not completely mad....well maybe just bit!

Have a great weekend!

  1. You couldn't get me to jump out of a plane even if it were on fire! I did wonder if you'd had a complete mental breakdown and that was why you were jumping.

    1. I think it would have taken a mental breakdown to get me to do it!

  2. You had me fooled there for a wee bit - and my first thought was "she's mad"! I'm not one for jumping out of a plane that's in perfectly good working order either. But my sis has just been to South Africa and did her first (and I hope, last!) sky dive there - and she loved it! Clearly she is the braver, more adventurous sibling :-)
Happy weekend and keep those feet firmly on the ground! xx

  3. I clearly don't know you well enough, I was thinking (as I was scrolling down the photos), oh wow, amazing. I would need to take tranquillizers, wear nappies and possibly carry a defibrillator in my fly along handbag. I am almost glad Richard always picks the first three items from my Amazon wish list!

  7. Wow, fantastic. I wonder if it was more nervewracking watching though! I'd love to do something like that. He'll have that memory for ever I think.

  10. So that was a present that someone gave you because they fancied it themselves, then. Don't know whether to congratulate the skydiver or not...

On mature reflection, which was a better present. The skydive that someone else did, or the 4 door handles?

    1. On reflection I would have to say the better gift was the door handles, at least they looked pretty and enabled us to actually get in and out of the dining room!! All the skydive did was put a big hole in the bank account!

  14. I didn't think you'd done it, not after what you said about it when you'd been bought it. Well done to your son, it takes me all my time to go up in a plane these days, never mind jump out of one.

  15. You had me going for a bit there and I was going to say how brave I thought you were!
